Summary:
The cofF (MJ1001) gene of Methanocaldococcus jannaschii, a homolog of the Escherichia coli K-12 rimK gene, was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The resulting monomeric protein was shown to be a γ-F420-2:α-l-glutamate ligase, the enzyme that caps the γ-glutamyl tail of the hydride carrier coenzyme F420 [Li03a].
