Summary:
The phosphoglycerate mutase isolated from maize was shown to catalyze the interconversion of glycerate-3-phosphate and glycerate-2-phosphate in a 2,3-biphosphoglycerate-independent fashion. Unlike yeast and human phosphoglycerate mutases which appear to be tetrameric, the maize isomer is monomeric [Grana89].
