MetaCyc Enzyme: cytoplasmic 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate-independent phosphoglycerate mutase

Gene: PGAM-i Accession Number: G-9857 (MetaCyc)

Synonyms: 2,3-biphosphoglycerate-independent phosphoglycerate mutase, GriP mutase, cofactor-independent phosphoglycerate mutase

Species: Zea mays

Summary:
The phosphoglycerate mutase isolated from maize was shown to catalyze the interconversion of glycerate-3-phosphate and glycerate-2-phosphate in a 2,3-biphosphoglycerate-independent fashion. Unlike yeast and human phosphoglycerate mutases which appear to be tetrameric, the maize isomer is monomeric [Grana89].

Enzymatic reaction of: 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate-dependent phosphoglycerate mutase (cytoplasmic 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate-independent phosphoglycerate mutase)

EC Number: 5.4.2.12

2-phospho-D-glycerate <=> 3-phospho-D-glycerate

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the direction in which it was curated.

This reaction is reversible.

In Pathways: superpathway of cytosolic glycolysis (plants), pyruvate dehydrogenase and TCA cycle , superpathway of anaerobic sucrose degradation , glycolysis IV (plant cytosol) , Rubisco shunt , gluconeogenesis I
