Summary:
The sucrose-specific Enzyme II component of the phosphoenolpyruvate-phosphotransferase system functions as a permease, mediating transport and phosphorylation of sucrose to sucrose-6-phosphate. In Staphylococcus xylosus the EIIscr polypeptide contains the B and C domains, but it is not clear which component of the PTS interacts with it to provide A domain function. Sucrose uptake by cultured cells was measured using [14C]sucrose [Wagner93].
