The maize Bx3 gene encodes a cytochrome P-450-dependent monooxygenase [Glawischnig97] with indolin-2-one monooxygenase activity (BX3). The activity of this protein was tested using microsomal fractions isolated from transgenic yeast strains expressing maize Bx3 [Frey97]. This protein was also shown to catalyze the conversion of benzoxazin-3-one into HBOA [Glawischnig99]. To date this protein has not been purified to homogeneity.
