Indoleacetamide hydrolase catalyzes the hydrolysis of indoleacetamide to indoleacetate and ammonia. This enzyme has been cloned from a strain of Pseudomonas savastanoi (strain 2009) that has been isolated from oleander plants in California, US. In this strain, the iaaH gene, which encodes this enzyme, is loacted on a 53 kb plasmid, named pIAA1 [Comai80], and is likely to be the last gene in the operon [Palm89]. As pathway end products had no effect on the activity of this enzyme, it is probable that this enzyme does not function in a regulatory capacity [Hutcheson85].

While this gene has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli [Palm89], it was not well characterized.
