Summary:
The Pseudomonas denitrificans enzyme precorrin-5 (C1)-methyltransferase catalyzes two reactions - the methylation of carbon C1 of precorrin-5, and its deacetylation, forming precorrin-6A. The cobF gene encoding the enzyme has been cloned and sequenced, and the enzyme, which requires S-adenosyl-L-methionine for activity, has been purified [Debussche93].
