MetaCyc Enzyme: precorrin-5 (C1)-methyltransferase

Gene: cobF Accession Number: G-499 (MetaCyc)

Synonyms: precorrin 6A synthase

Species: Pseudomonas denitrificans

Summary:
The Pseudomonas denitrificans enzyme precorrin-5 (C1)-methyltransferase catalyzes two reactions - the methylation of carbon C1 of precorrin-5, and its deacetylation, forming precorrin-6A. The cobF gene encoding the enzyme has been cloned and sequenced, and the enzyme, which requires S-adenosyl-L-methionine for activity, has been purified [Debussche93].

Enzymatic reaction of: precorrin-5 (C1)-methyltransferase

EC Number: 2.1.1.152

precorrin-5 + S-adenosyl-L-methionine + H2O <=> precorrin-6A + S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + acetate + 2 H+

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the direction in which it was curated.

The reaction is physiologically favored in the direction shown.
