MetaCyc Enzyme: monoterpene synthase

Summary:
A cDNA clone was isolated from Ocimum basilicum and recombinantly expressed in Escherichia coli, and the recombinant protein was characterized. The gene, which was named FES, encodes a protein that is 95.1% identitical to EC 4.2.3.15, myrcene synthase. It catalyzes the formation of (-)-endo-fenchol, (-)-α-pinene, (4S)-limonene, and one additional unidentified monoterpene [Iijima04].
