MetaCyc Polypeptide: apo-DhbF protein

Gene: dhbF Accession Number: G-10624 (MetaCyc)

Synonyms: dimodular nonribosomal peptide synthetase

Species: Bacillus subtilis

Alternative forms of apo-DhbF protein: holo-DhbF protein (summary available)

This protein is a very large dimodular enzyme, that contains 7 domains, responsible for glycine binding, adenylation, and condensation with 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate (DHB), L-threonine binding, adenylation, and condensation with 2,3-dihydroxybenzoylglycine, and finally, a Te domain, responsible of condensation of three DHB-glycine-threonine into a single bacillibactin molecule [May01].

The apo enzyme is activated by binding two molecules of 4'-phosphopantetheine, in a reaction catalyzed by the sfp-encoded 4'-phosphopantetheinyl transferase [May01]. The activated enzyme is referred to as holo-DhbF protein.

Molecular Weight of Polypeptide: 263.74 kD (from nucleotide sequence), 264.0 kD (experimental) [May01 ]
