Enzymatic reaction of: desoxyhemigossypol-6-O-methyltransferase

EC Number: 2.1.1.-

desoxyhemigossypol + S-adenosyl-L-methionine <=> desoxyhemigossypol-6-methyl ether + S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + H+

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the direction in which it was curated.

The reaction is physiologically favored in the direction shown.

Summary:
The enzyme activity does not require metal ions. Addition of EDTA had no effects. The enzyme was strongly inhibited by the addition of 10mM p-chloromercuribenzoate (98% reduction), 10 mM iodoacetamide (63%), 5 mM heavy metal cobalt (96%), copper (98%), manganese (82%), and zinc (98%). The enzyme specifically methylates the 6-position of desoxyhemigossypol. Hemigossypol, 2,7-dihydroxycadalene, caffeic acid, 4-methylcatechol, or 2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene was not mehtylated.
