MetaCyc Enzyme: oleate 12-hydroxylase

Summary:
A protein having oleoyl-12-hydroxylase activity was purified and characterized from microsomal fraction of immature castor bean. The actual substrate 1-acyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (2-oleoyl-PC) was used for enzyme characterization, as an improvement over the previous use of oleoyl-CoA as substrate. This enzyme catalyzes the formation of the product ricinoleate. The enzyme fraction was found to peak in late anthesis stage of castor [Lin96].
