The gbuA gene encoding the Pseudomonas aeruginosa guanidinobutyrase is located in an operon with the gbuR gene, encoding a regulator. The enzyme is similar to the Pseudomonas putida enzyme in having a high optimal pH and a requirement for Mn2+. However, it differs in its subunit structure, being a tetramer (the enzyme from Pseudomonas putida is a hexamer). Transcription from the gbuA gene requires binding of the GbuR regulator as well as the presence of 4-guanidinobutanoate [Nakada02]
