MetaCyc Enzyme: flavonoid O-methyltransferase

Summary:
A cDNA clone was isolated from wheat leaf cDNA database. The cDNA encodes a gene called TaOMT2 whose product sequentially methylates tricetin. The methylated products were identified by thin layer chromatography and they are; 3'-O-methyltricetin, 3',5'-O-dimethyltricetin and 3',4',5'-O-trimethyltricetin [Zhou06]. This single enzyme thus catalyzes the biosynthesis of tricin, tricetin and 3',4',5' -trimethyl ether.
