MetaCyc Enzyme: N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine formamidase

Species: Oryctolagus cuniculus

The subunit structure of this enzyme has not been reported. The gene encoding the rabbit enzyme has not been cloned.

The enzyme has been partially purified from rabbit brain [Hirata74].

Enzymatic reaction of: N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine formamidase

Inferred from experiment

N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine + H2O → N-acetyl-5-methoxykynurenamine + formate + H+

The direction shown, i.e. which substrates are on the left and right sides, is in accordance with the direction in which it was curated.

The reaction is favored in the direction shown.

In Pathways: superpathway of melatonin degradation, melatonin degradation III

The conversion of N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine to N-acetyl-5-methoxykynurenamine was demonstrated using partially purified rabbit brain formamidase. The substrate was derived enzymatically from radiolabeled melatonin [Hirata74].
