The subunit structure of this enzyme has not been reported. The gene encoding the rabbit enzyme has not been cloned.

The enzyme has been partially purified from rabbit brain [Hirata74].

Enzymatic reaction of: N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine formamidase

N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine + H2O <=> N-acetyl-5-methoxykynurenamine + formate + H+

Summary:
The conversion of N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5-methoxykynuramine to N-acetyl-5-methoxykynurenamine was demonstrated using partially purified rabbit brain formamidase. The substrate was derived enzymatically from radiolabeled melatonin [Hirata74].
