MetaCyc Enzyme: alcohol dehydrogenase

Summary:
A cDNA clone was isolated from anaerobically treated pisum sativum cv greenfest cells. The cDNA encoded a gene that was homologous with maize adh1 and adh2. A fusion product of a short stretch of the promoter with a reporter gene was introduced by electroporation into nicotiana plumbaginifolia. Incubation of the transfected protoplasts under anaerobic conditions resulted in increase of transient expression of the gene [Llewellyn87].
