MetaCyc Enzyme: alditol oxidase

Summary:
Streptomyces sp. IKD472/FERM P-14339 is a thermophile isolated from a hot spring. An alditol oxidase was purified from the organism,and found to be a monomeric protein of 43 kDa [Yamashita00]. The enzyme bound one mole of FAD as a coenzyme per mole of protein, and its preferred substrate was xylitol, although it could catalyze the oxidation of other alditols, such as galactitol, D-sorbitol, D-arabitol and D-mannitol, with lower efficiency.

The xyoA gene encoding the enzyme was identified, isolated,and overexpressed in Escherichia coli [Yamashita00].
