Reaction Locations: periplasm (sensu Gram-negative Bacteria)

The direction shown, i.e. which substrates are on the left and right sides, is in accordance with the direction in which it was curated.

Mass balance status: Balance undetermined; a substrate lacks a chemical formula

Enzyme Commission Primary Name: peptidyl-dipeptidase Dcp

Enzyme Commission Synonyms: dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase (Dcp), dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase

This reaction is the hydrolysis of a peptide bond in an amino-blocked small peptide.

Enzyme Commission Summary:
This enzyme catalyzes hydrolysis of unblocked, C-terminal dipeptides from oligopeptides, with broad specificity. Does not hydrolyse bonds in which P1' is Pro, or both P1 and P1' are Gly.

Known from Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. A zinc metallopeptidase in peptidase family M3 (thimet oligopeptidase family). Ac-Ala-|-Ala-Ala is a good test substrate [Conlin95]. Inhibited by captopril, as is peptidyl-dipeptidase A. Formerly EC, and included in EC, peptidyl-dipeptidase A.
