Summary:
The ortholog of WcaD in E. coli O157:H7 is involved in colanic acid synthesis [Mao01]. WcaD is believed to be a CA polymerase based on sequence similarity and is presence in a putative CA synthesis operon [Stevenson96]. WcaD is predicted to span the inner membrane with nine transmembrane segments, and polymerization of CA E units is expected to occur in the periplasm [Stevenson96].
