Summary:
Fructose 6-phosphate aldolase (FSA) is a novel enzyme activity. Its discovery in E. coli appears to be the first report of this activity in any organism. The fsaB (formerly talC, [Reizer95]) gene encodes a second FSA in E. coli whose activity has not been studied in detail. The enzyme is a class I aldolase. The physiological role of FSA is not yet known [Schurmann01].
