Although [Baba06] did not recover a yigP (ubiJ) null mutant strain, [Aussel14] was able to construct such a mutant. Under aerobic growth conditions, this ubiJ mutant has a growth defect and does not contain any ubiquinone-8. A plasmid encoding the C-terminal 50 amino acids of UbiJ can rescue the growth defect [Aussel14].

ubiJ is one of a network of genes believed to play a role in promoting the stress-induced mutagenesis (SIM) response of E. coli K-12 [Al12].

The ubiE, ubiJ, and ubiB genes are cotranscribed [Poon00].
