Escherichia coli K-12 substr. MG1655 Protein: predicted carboxysome structural protein

Gene: eutN Accession Numbers: G7286 (EcoCyc), b2456, ECK2451

Synonyms: yffY, cchB

Regulation Summary Diagram: ?

Subunit composition of predicted carboxysome structural protein = [EutN]6
predicted carboxysome structural protein = EutN

Summary:
Several genes of the eut operon are involved in the ability to utilize ethanolamine as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen in Salmonella typhimurium; the operon is conserved between Salmonella and E. coli. EutN has not been shown to be involved in ethanolamine utilization in either Salmonella or E. coli [Kofoid99]. EutN is similar to the carboxysomal shell protein CcmL of Synechococcus sp. strain PCC7942 [Price93a, Kofoid99].

A crystal structure of EutN has been solved at 2.4 Å resolution. The protein forms a tight hexamer with a central hole that is predominantly covered by acidic residues, suggesting a pore with a transport function [Forouhar07].

EutN: "ethanolamine utilization"

CchB: "carbon dioxide concentration homolog B" [Stojiljkovic95]

Locations: cytosol

Map Position: [2,569,785 <- 2,570,072] (55.39 centisomes)
