Escherichia coli K-12 substr. MG1655 Gene-Ontology-Terms Class: GO:0009035 - Type I site-specific deoxyribonuclease activity

Synonyms: adenosine triphosphate-dependent deoxyribonuclease activity, ATP-dependent DNase activity, deoxyribonuclease (adenosine triphosphate-hydrolyzing), deoxyribonuclease (ATP- and S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent), Type I restriction enzyme activity, type I site-specific deoxyribonuclease activity

Definition: Catalysis of the endonucleolytic cleavage of DNA to give random double-stranded fragments with terminal 5' or 3' protrusions; ATP is simultaneously hydrolyzed. Cleavage is dependent on the presence in the DNA of a specific recognition site. Cleavage may occur hundreds or thousands of base pairs away from the recognition site due to translocation of DNA.
